Our pet sins? No, this isn’t something that our cat or dog does when they don’t mind. These are those sins that we hang on to and treat just like they were one of our pets. You know, you feed it, cuddle it, water it, play with it; basically anything that you can do to help it grow. (And then, show it to everyone you see.)
Tonight, we started talking about this and it was interesting to know that I wasn’t the only one that has had this problem of “holding on to and showing off” my “pet” sin. I have a hard time with “conditionality”. You know, the “I will do this for you, IF you do that for me” sin. It is something that I struggle with on a daily basis. I can say that as I have handed this (and many others) over to God, it hasn’t been as big an issue, but it does creep back in sometimes. It seems, when I think that I have “thrown it out”, that the “ol’ dog” just keeps dragging it in the back door. It has been so hard not to hang on to all of these negative things that seem to ZAP the LIGHT out of you.
It has taken lots of Prayer, but God has been able to change alot of these into positive things for His glorification. I just keep on praying each day that He will show ALL of my “pets” that need to find NEW homes (aka the garbage bin).
But, as a friend says, “God is Good all the time, and all the time, God is Good!!!”
Take your “pet” sins to the “kennel” and leave them there with the ONE that can take care of them better than you can!!!
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
